What it is, why it matters, and how to know if it is right for you.

Small ship cruising means vessels carrying fewer than 1,000 guests. In practice, many of the lines I work with carry far fewer than that. The difference sailing on a small ship is not subtle: you dock in the heart of the city, the crew knows your name by day two, the level of dining is exceptional, and the service is intuitive.

The experience is, in every meaningful sense, a different category of travel.

Ocean Cruising

The reach of an ocean cruise is unmatched. Scandinavia to the Mediterranean to Japan — itineraries that cover ground no river can reach. At the small ship level, ocean cruising delivers suite-level accommodation, world-class dining, and the kind of service that comes from a 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio.

Expedition Cruising

Expedition cruising is a specialised segment of the cruise industry that emphasises adventure travel and exploration of remote destinations. Unlike traditional cruises, which focus on mainstream ports and onboard entertainment, expedition cruises prioritize discovery, education, and sustainability.

Smaller ships navigate shallow waters and access areas that larger vessels simply cannot reach. Destinations include:

River Cruising

River cruising is about immersion. You dock in the centre of Bordeaux, of Budapest, of Amsterdam — and you walk off the ship directly into the place. The ships are smaller, the ports are more frequent, and the pace is designed around being somewhere rather than travelling between places.
